On January 16, 2026 at 19:30, the first session of the Hong Kong Dental Licensing Examination (HKDLE) system intensive lecture class of Zhengxi Education officially set sail in the lights that lit up at both ends of the screen. When many courses choose to start with an easy “introduction”, we and Dr. Shu Xin made a somewhat counterintuitive decision: in the first lecture, we went straight to one of the most difficult and widely recognized challenges – Conservative Dentistry.

Why is it a ‘Hell’s Beginning’?

This is not meant to ‘discourage’, on the contrary, it is a carefully considered ‘breaking the deadlock’ strategy. We are well aware that for Part 1 exam takers, the biggest enemy is not a specific knowledge point, but two states:

False prosperity “: spinning around in relatively simple content, mistakenly thinking that the progress is good, but being crushed by difficult points in the later stage, resulting in a collapse of mentality.
Persistent procrastination “: Fear of the most difficult part, constantly procrastinating, resulting in insufficient time in the later stages and having to strategically give up.

Putting the most difficult part in front is precisely injecting a shot of adrenaline into the entire preparation cycle. In the most competitive and time abundant opening stage, concentrate firepower to conquer a strategic high ground. When you find yourself able to keep up and digest, the confidence and sense of rhythm you establish will become the key driving force to support you through the following months.

As one student said, “At first, I thought it was difficult, but after following the teacher’s logic to break it down and looking back at other modules, I felt like there were pathways.

A few big truths for all Part 1 test takers

Taking advantage of the enthusiasm of the course, I also want to say a few honest words to my peers who are planning or have started self-study for Part 1:

✅ Correct judgment 1: Part 1 is not “memorizing multiple points”, it is the “foundation” of thinking

Don’t treat it as a theoretical exam that can be passed by simply solving problems. The knowledge of Part 1 is the underlying logic for all subsequent clinical decisions. Save the diagnostic ideas in dentistry and directly relate them to periodontics, restoration, and even surgery. I don’t understand, the clinical oral examination of Part 3 is just a castle in the air.

✅ Correct judgment 2: Order is a strategy

The common misconception in self-study is to read the first chapter in order. But efficient preparation requires a strategic sequence. We chose to talk about dental preservation first precisely because it occupies a pivotal position in the knowledge network. Have you examined your review sequence, whether it is building a knowledge network or laying out knowledge points?

✅ Correct judgment 3: What you need are “translation” and “navigation”

The official outline and thick reference book are like a ‘medical dictionary’, accurate but obscure. The core task of preparing for the exam is to find a guide who can help you translate the “dictionary” into a “battle map” and guide you through key points and avoid traps. The time cost of exploring alone is much higher than you imagine.

We have already departed, which station are you at?
Within 48 hours of the start of the course, we have led the first batch of students to complete a positive breakthrough in the first battle. The most valuable thing on this road is not the wonderful explanations we have heard, but a certainty – a determined direction, a determined rhythm, and a determined support system.

If you are still feeling lost facing a huge exam syllabus alone, or consuming enthusiasm in an inefficient review cycle, then it is time to reassess your preparation strategy.

The systematic classes of Zhengxi Education have already started, but professional exam preparation guidance and planning services are always open. We can provide you with a clear assessment of your preparation, telling you where the key areas that need to be strengthened before successfully completing the level are.

Only by defeating the most difficult point can we illuminate the entire battlefield.
